So I came up with an idea. I do a lot of video editing and everybody knows that SSDs do have a limited read and write lifetime. Granted the Samsung 860 Evo SSDs have an insane lifetime on them, I think it would be kind of a cool idea to set up a fairly cheap external SSD editing scratch disk of sorts.

So the idea would be to pick up two of Samsung’s brand new 860 Evo SSDs as well as a USB 3.0 external hard drive docking station that I can put my two SSDs in. Once I have that equipment set up and ready to go what I would do is simply have my Shadowplay dump my footage on to one of the drives in the dock and then the other drive would act as a place that I can copy the files that I want to edit over and then edit from there. So that way if for whatever reason one of these SSDs decides to fail it’s not as big of a deal when it’s an external device like that.

What do you guys think of this idea? If you want to see the products that I would use to make this a reality you can do so by viewing them below.
