Sony recently announced their new FE 200-600mm lens and I am beyond excited. There are tons of videos covering this new lens alongside the 600mm F4 lens that came out as well. However, I’m only interested in the FE 200-600mm because of the price and what I would be using it for. The FE 200-600 comes in at just under $2,000, which is actually a pretty good price for what it offers. This is the kind of lens for someone who likes to take nature/wildlife photos and maybe sports in good lighting scenarios.

In the videos that are already out covering this lens, they all say it works great on the Sony A9 body. That is obviously good news for me because I use the Sony A9. I’ve also heard people say it works well on the Sony a7r 3 as well.

Something I want to bring to everybody’s attention though is the fact that you get the reach of a 200-600mm in normal scenarios but If you attach a 2X teleconverter to it you get a 400-1200mm lens. That is an incredible amount of reach you can get for the same price as a brand new Sony 70-200 F 2.8 lens. Granted you do not have the same low light capabilities as the 70-200 2.8 but you do get more reach and more versatility.

So needless to say this is definitely something that I want to save up for. I absolutely love the idea of getting more reach so I can capture animals and other activities without scaring them. There have been countless occasions where I could have got some really cool photos of some creatures but I did not have a lens that would let me get close enough. So hopefully in the very near future, I will be able to pick up this lens as well as the teleconverter and make some really cool photos and videos for you guys.
