Hello there everyone! I felt like creating another talk show episode that is accompanied with a video format. So be to check out the video below. I will make sure the video has CC and if you’d like to just read the transcript you can do so below. 🙂 GO STARLINK!

Exciting! Lets Talk About Starlink

Hello to everybody, Silentwisher here with a brand new talk show episode. And in this episode we’re going to talk about something that I find very exciting, and that is a company called Starlink. So if you haven’t heard of Starlink, Starlink is supposed to be a, from what I understand, a low altitude satellite internet service provider.

[00:00:22] Now I know what you’re thinking. As soon as you hear. satellite internet provider, you know, or expect there to be data caps and basically just horrible performance, which is true in 99.9% of the cases period. But, in this case, Starlink is launching several hundred lower altitude satellites that shouldn’t interfere with our existing ones.

[00:00:51]in order to bring fiber speeds via satellite to people in need. from what I’ve read and from what I’ve heard, it’ll be mostly available to the Northern US and Canada first and then potentially the rest of the U S and the rest of the world. towards 2021, we’re late 20, 20. Either way. I really hope this does become a thing.

[00:01:17]it’s very promising. Supposedly the, the, response time, the ping, whatever you want to call it, is going to be single digits. I read somewhere that the response time was like 38 milliseconds, which is. Really, really good. and then of course, if it is fiber, you know, gigabit speeds from satellite, then it’s even better.

[00:01:40]so I used to have gigabit, and I’m not going to go into that whole story, but if, if they can provide gigabit speeds, you know, parallel gigabit speeds are close to it. That would be life changing for a lot of people, myself included. So let’s just say they, yeah, I don’t know. Offer like a maximum of 500 megabytes to one gigabyte down and the same for up, or maybe they can’t offer parallel because of satellite technology.

[00:02:08] So they offer some really high number, like 800 megabytes down and 200 up or 400 up. I would be totally happy with that too. but apparently it’s going to be, I’m looking at the, starlink.com website, and the goal is to be across the globe. and if you go to starlink.com you can see more of this information, but.

[00:02:30]it says, Starlink is targeting service in Northern US and Canada in 2020 rapidly expanding to near global coverage of the populated world by 2021. So that’s really exciting guys. and just for additional information, if you don’t feel like looking at it yourself, normal satellites sit at a thousand kilometers plus, up in space.

[00:02:54] And the Starlink satellite mesh system is what I’m going to call it, sits at 550 kilometers, so significantly less. So. that’d be cool. and like I said, from what I read, it seems to be a mesh system, so that’s good. We’re not gonna have to rely on like, you know, just a handful of satellites trying to provide, you know, this awesome internet service for.

[00:03:21] You know, everyone across the globe. So in theory, as long as weather’s good and everything else, we’ll get awesome internet, which is fantastic. now they’re keeping pretty hush hush on the technology regarding how this is working. So who knows if this is going to be effected by weather. traditional satellite is affected by, severe thunderstorms and stuff like that.

[00:03:43] And cloud cover. Maybe this technology won’t because it’s lower and maybe it’s got a higher frequency. It can penetrate through the clouds and whatnot easier. Who knows? Only time will tell, but I wanted to bring that to everybody’s attention because it’s super, super exciting for me, and hopefully.

[00:04:02] Exciting for you because every single person I’ve met online so far that I play video games with has bad internet for the most part. Of course, there are the few and far between that have good internet, including fiber, but, this, this Starlink service is going to give the industry a real run for their money and I hope it is a good run for their money.

[00:04:23] So, and I, and I, and I just hope it, you know, happens for sure. They have already launched satellites, by the way. This isn’t just like, you know, Oh, a concept idea or whatever. They’ve actually launched several hundred satellites already. So they are doing this, this is happening. just no official timeframes or anything here on their website that I can find where you can request to sign up.

[00:04:48] So. that’s all I have to say about the whole Starlink thing. I hope you guys are excited as I am. And, yeah, that’s where I’m going to end this one. I’ll see you guys in the next show.
