YouTube has been cracking down on copyright infringement in recent months, and now it is taking action against Discord music bots. These bots used YouTube’s API to function as a streaming service for popular songs. In a blog post from the company, YouTube states that they have terminated access to the API following “multiple third-party reports of abuse.”

One developer reports having their Discord BOT shut down for “stealing music.” Discord is working directly with YouTube to resolve this issue so developers’ Discord bots will continue to function normally when using YouTube’s API.

What does the future of Discord music bots look like? Time will only tell. So if you are using bots like Groovy or Rythm, expect the bot to go offline soon or leave your server entirely.
