Helldivers 2: Desolation on the PC Battlefield?

Hold onto your jetpacks, Super Earth soldiers! Helldivers 2 just dropped a friendly fire bomb on its PC fanbase. The news? Sony is mandating Playstation Network (PSN) accounts for all PC players.

This about-face comes after an earlier decision to scrap the PSN requirement. Now, existing players have a deadline of June 4th to link their accounts, while new recruits need a PSN ID from day one (May 6th) onwards.

Now, requiring accounts isn’t exactly a plasma rifle blast to the face. But for PC gamers, it feels like unnecessary red tape. The backlash has been swift and brutal. Steam user reviews are plummeting faster than a support squad dodging a tactical nuke, and the Helldivers 2 Discord sounds like a warzone of its own.

Arrowhead Studios, the developers behind Helldivers 2, are scrambling for cover. CEO Johan Pilestedt has offered an apology, but with negative reviews piling up like spent shell casings, it’s clear the damage is done.

So, is this the end of democracy for Helldivers 2 on PC? Not necessarily. You can still suit up and fight the good fight. But the controversy casts a long shadow. Will this PSN snafu sink the game’s PC future, or can Arrowhead win back the trust of their keyboard and mouse warriors? Only time, and future updates, will tell.
