The Canon EF 50mm is a pretty impressive lens. For the current price listed on Amazon, you’re not going to get a better lens for the same amount of money. The Canon EF 50mm is one very small but very useful lens that you should have as part of your gear set. The Canon EF 50mm Allows users to get a low aperture of F/1.8 in situations where they absolutely need it. For example a dimly-lit wedding reception or a birthday party.

An aperture of 1.8 could be useful in situations where there is not enough light in your scene, or you just want a super shallow depth of field. Also since it is a prime lens, you can expect slightly sharper images from it as well. That being said there are some major issues with this lens that I’m going to get into right now.

One of the major issues of this lens is autofocus performance. The autofocus performance is not that great, especially in low-light situations. The autofocus performance, in my opinion, is too slow for what I do. However, it might be just fine for you so I would recommend trying it out and see what you think. Regardless of the autofocus speed, it is an excellent lens to have as part your kit no matter what. An L Series lens at this focal length will cost you a fortune compared to this, and some people would argue that this gets similar or the same sharpness as an L Series lens.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens Review

The next issue that I have with this lens is the build quality. The build quality is simply just garbage. It’s a piece of plastic basically and nothing more. I understand for the price that you’re paying you’re not going to get much. However, you have to be very careful with this lens since it is basically all plastic and not metal/aluminum like the fancier L-series lenses.

One of the pros to this lens is, the lightweight of it due to the build quality. So if weight is an issue for you, this lens will not weigh you down at all.

One of the things that might not be important to some people as it is to others such as myself is custom buttons. This lens does not feature any sort of custom buttons. The lens does have an autofocus and manual focus toggle switch, but that is it.

Last but not least is the price of this lens. This lens is amazing for the price that they are asking for on Amazon and other websites. For around $100 you’re getting a great quality lens. The price to performance is very good. I would like to wrap it up by saying I do recommend the Canon EF 50mm. Check it out via the links below.
